About the Lecture

This lecture will introduce you to the quantum theory of magnetism.

The lecture takes place on Thursdays from 10 to 12 in the room: Konferenzraum I, W 0.027, PI.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, this semester starts with digital teaching. For more information on how to participate in the online lecture, visit the eCampus page.

The first exam is going to take place on the 28.07.2020 from 9 to 11 in the lecture hall of the HISKP.

Literature

We will follow:
  • P. W. Anderson, Basic Notions of Condensed Matter Physics (1984).
  • A. Auerbach, Interacting Electrons and Quantum Magnetism (1994).
  • Yu. A. Izyumov, and Yu. N. Skryabin, Statistical Mechanics of Magnetically Ordered Systems (1988).
  • C. Kittel, Quantum Theory of Solids (1963).
Additionally, we encourage the students to read the following articles:

Exercises

The tutorial takes place on Tuesdays from 11 to 12 o'clock in the room: Ü2, Raum 0.033, AVZ I.

Please hand in your solutions until Mondays 14 o'clock in front of the room 1.032 in the PI.
As long as the semester is carried out digitally, send your solutions via e-mail to hoellmer@physik.uni-bonn.de.

In order to attend the final examination, the students need to attain at least 50% of the points on the exercise sheets.
